Can Diet, Scalp Care, and Daily Habits Help My Hair?
Daily care cannot reverse every type of hair loss, but it can remove avoidable stress from fragile strands and reveal problems that need treatment. Think of it as protecting the environment in which your hair grows—not as a substitute for a diagnosis.
Eat Enough Before You Buy More Supplements
Insufficient protein, iron, zinc, or calories can contribute to shedding in some patients. A balanced eating pattern with adequate protein, vegetables, fruit, whole grains, and healthy fats is a stronger foundation than a cabinet full of “hair vitamins.” If a deficiency is suspected, testing can guide the correct nutrient and dose.
Be cautious with biotin and megadose supplements. Deficiency is uncommon, high doses can interfere with important laboratory tests, and excessive amounts of certain nutrients—including vitamin A, vitamin E, and selenium—have been associated with hair loss.
Wash the Scalp You Actually Have
Wash according to oiliness, buildup, hair texture, and scalp condition—not a rigid internet rule. Apply shampoo mainly to the scalp and conditioner mainly where the hair needs moisture. Persistent flaking, itching, sores, tenderness, or pimples deserve assessment rather than repeated product switching.
Reduce Breakage and Traction
- Limit frequent high heat and harsh chemical processing.
- Detangle gently and avoid aggressive brushing, especially when wet.
- Avoid repeatedly tight ponytails, braids, extensions, or styles that pull at the hairline.
- Use products suited to your hair texture and scalp condition.
- Protect thinning areas from excessive sun exposure.
A Simple Two-Week Hair Diary
Before consultation, record wash days, products, tight hairstyles, scalp symptoms, major meals, supplements, and unusually heavy shedding. Photos taken in the same lighting and angle can be more useful than daily mirror checks. Bring the diary so your NDV MED team can spot patterns and create a realistic care regimen.
