Is Liposuction Safe—and Am I a Good Candidate?

Liposuction is surgery. It can be performed safely in an appropriately selected patient with a carefully planned operation, but no surgical procedure is risk-free. A proper consultation should discuss both the expected benefit and the risks specific to you.

Who May Be a Suitable Candidate?

Conditions affecting healing, circulation, the heart or lungs, blood clotting, or immune function may alter the plan or make elective surgery unsuitable. Only an individual medical assessment can determine this.

Risks You Should Know

Possible complications include bleeding, infection, fluid collections, numbness, contour irregularities or asymmetry, skin injury, anesthesia complications, blood clots, fat embolism, fluid imbalance, and—rarely—injury to deeper structures. Larger treatment areas and multiple procedures in one operation may increase risk.

How Your Team Plans for Safety

Your NDV MED team will review your medical history, medications and supplements, previous operations, smoking or nicotine use, and treatment goals. You may need laboratory tests or medical clearance. The team will also decide which areas can reasonably be treated, the appropriate setting and anesthesia, and whether staging treatment is safer.
